  1. Grade Recovery Secondary Student Programs - Grades 6-12 : Odyssey

Our district has chosen to use CompassLearning Odyssey®, a Web-based curriculum, to enhance your child’s educational experience. The Odyssey program offers a customized learning program for your child. The targeted instruction is aligned with state and national standards while a variety of instructional approaches facilitate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of your child. You and your child have immediate access to the progress report that is located in the "backpack" icon. This is a great opportunity for your child to extend the learning time while keeping him/her engaged, entertained, and receptive to learning.

In order to proceed successfully with your home use, your computer workstation must be properly set up, including browser and plug-in installation.

The student/parent document is designed to help you and your child get off to a good start by providing the information necessary to complete computer workstation setup.

    Having trouble connecting?!!?!!!!
Home computers MUST also have (in addition to the items listed below) FLASH; Adobe, and Shockwave installed or the home-access won’t work.(Technology considers any computer that is less than 2 years old “new'… this connection requires “new' computer technology. You might inform parents with older machines that their connection problems probably arise just from the age of their computers.)
    1. Most important helpful tip: on the DCPS website (www.duvalschools.org) click on the Students or Parents tab at the top, select “student software'; and click “secondary student programs. Click the links that are appropriate to your needs. NOTE: There is now a contact person and phone number for help.
    2. Can’t connect at home? If you use FOXFIRE as your browser, you can’t connect. If your home computer has a virus, you can’t connect. If your home computer doesn’t have adequate antivirus protection, you can’t connect. (You must purchase an updated anti virus program.) If you close out the pop-up window about “Extender' when the program is opening, it will not connect. Don’t close any pop-up windows. They will self minimize when complete. If you are logged onto any other program at the same time, Compass will not connect. Be certain that you are on the Odyssey home page that says “Duval County PS'. Otherwise you’re on the company home page and not the coursework site. You’ll be unable to connect to your work.
    3. Can’t connect from school? Chances are that if you can get on the internet at school with your current log-in info, but you can’t get onto the Odyssey connection, there’s a Genesis problem. It must be reported to the Compass representative for processing. (Call the contact number on the DCPS website.)
    4. Course Recovery and Grade Recovery students who must complete assignments and cannot access them at home may apply for afterschool ALC Course Recovery through their counselor. For Grade Recovery, students must work with their teachers for afterschool access to the system.
