Senior Chief Petty Officer Robert J. Briley Jr, U.S. Navy, retired hails from Jacksonville, Florida. He married his wife Gisele Briley, a Middle School Language Arts Teacher in 1987 and they have two children Brittany born in 1987 and Hunter born in 1989. Brittany currently attends the University of North Florida and Hunter is a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Robert completed High School in Jacksonville, Florida, enlisted in the Navy in 1983 and completed Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of Recruit Training, he reported, as a Seaman Recruit, to the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. While assigned there he advanced to 2nd class petty officer and completed Two Mediterranean deployments.
Following this tour he re-enlisted and waived his shore duty assignment for orders to the USS Philippine Sea (CG-58), stationed in Mayport, Florida. Reporting as an Operations Specialist Second Class, he boarded the ship in Bathe, Maine where the ship was going through its final construction before commissioning. Following his promotion to First Class Petty Officer he was selected to serve as OI Division Leading Petty Officer despite being the junior of 18 highly qualified first class petty officers. During his tour on board USS Philippine Sea (CG-58) the ship complete a Mediterranean/ Red Sea deployment participating in Operation Desert Storm.
Following his advancement to Chief Petty Officer Robert then reported to Fleet Training Group Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a Navigation/Seamanship instructor. Following this overseas tour he reported to Aegis Training Support Group (ATSG) in Mayport, Florida as a Combat Systems instructor specifically, as the lead instructor for the Force Air Defense Warfare Coordinator Course of Instruction. During this tour he earned the Master Training Specialist designation.
Upon completion of his tour at ATSG he then reported for a second tour onboard the USS Philippine Sea (CG-58) where he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. During this tour he completed his last deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. Senior Chief Briley then completed his 21 year active duty naval career at Aegis Training and Readiness Center, Mayport, Florida serving as the Curriculum Standard Officer.
Following the completion of his active duty naval career he applied for and was certified by the U.S. Navy for employment a naval science instructor with the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC). Senior Chief Briley then accepted an offer to serve as First Coast High School’s Naval Science Instructor as position his has served since February of 2004. Completed Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2008.

Veterans of Foreign War(VFW) 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year Award for District Six.
